Our story:
Jay– Our story is one of a father, an artisan with over three decades of industry experience and a natural flair for innovative design. My journey began in childhood, spending weekends in my uncle’s workshop – a renowned wood carver – where the trade became ingrained in me.
Alfred – A son with a natural talent, having grown up surrounded by the craft, complemented by my own background in high-end luxury house building and the restoration of listed properties.
What began as a dream evolved quickly into a vibrant reality at our Norfolk-based workshop, founded in 2024. Our journey was shaped by Alfred’s struggles with mainstream education, where he became anxious and disengaged, as schooling didn’t nurture his interests, abilities, or skills. Like many after the Covid era, he became part of the growing non-attendance statistics, and the only available support was to have him work alongside me in the workshop. There, he developed remarkable skills of his own, receiving his first commissions for chopping boards and wooden toys. When the time came to decide whether to sit his exams – in a school environment that had not supported him – he chose instead to pursue a career and a future in our craft. From that moment, the idea for Sexton & Son was born.
At Sexton & Son, our narrative is a testament to the enduring bond between father and son. We bring together our unique skills and experiences, weaving a new chapter in our shared journey of craftsmanship, creativity, and forging a family legacy.
Our Misson
Our mission at Sexton & Son is to craft handmade, custom furniture and joinery solutions that seamlessly blend craftsmanship, functionality, and design. We are dedicated to delivering enduring pieces to homes and businesses while making a positive impact on both people and the environment. With over 90% of our timber use coming from imported timber, and by sourcing local British wood with a focus on provenance and a minimal carbon footprint, each creation tells a unique story of sustainability and artistry.
Rooted in Provenance
Every piece of furniture we craft carries a unique story — from the moment the tree was felled, through our deep understanding of its timber properties, to the final place it calls home. Our knowledge of trees and their character allows us to honour their history, share their journey, and even bring together different timbers in a natural marriage that replicates the relationships found in nature. In this way, we create furniture that preserves the provenance of the wood and elevates it into timeless pieces that embody the harmony of the natural world and the care of our craftsmanship.
